NEWS AND MUSE

Hello and welcome to the first newsletter from HOWCANI. No doubt it will be a work in progress for some time to come until we hit on a format that suits you and us.

Nothing you try will work if you don’t

The above is not a quote from a famous person (although I intend to use quite a few famous quotes in future). It happens to be a personal opinion of mine and one I try to live my life by.

There are so many offers on the web that promise instant transformations in your life. “Just visualize it, shout it out loud and it will materialize.”

I saw one promotion recently that offered something like “Transform your life completely, NOW.” It went on to say you simply had to pay your money, listen to the DVDs and relax. You don’t have to do anything and you will be amazed at the results. About the only thing you wouldn’t have happen is sainthood.

I’m sorry, call me a spoilsport, or a doubting Thomas (I am partial to the philosophy of Thomas Aquinas) but it doesn’t do anything for me. The only way to have something happen in the physical universe that you intend to happen is for you to do it. That means effort of some sort. Wishing is just that, wishing.

That doesn’t mean to say I don’t believe there is a spiritual side to life; on the contrary. What I do say is that if you want to play the game of life you must participate. You must play.

Enough of that, for the moment. Some news. I am doing a workshop at the famous Wing Chun Kung Fu academy in Sydney on Sunday, July 1st. I am excited about it for a number of reasons. Firstly, they are a dedicated group of experts in martial arts and their attitude to life and living is exceptional.

We will be looking at a number of concepts that clarify what happens when we try to take on a new skill, knowledge or ability. We will examine it from the viewpoint of both a teacher and learner.

The workshop is entitled The Path to Mastery.

We will be filming it for release as a DVD by about end July [ed note: Available now. Click here for more info. I promise it will contain elements not mentioned in the secret. The real power of the individual and how to begin to realize true potential will be revealed.

Additionally we now have the time management DVD available. How can I get time? I recommend this DVD if you want to develop a strategy to manage your time that will be unique to you and work all the time.

Now to something different. For some odd reason I was thinking the other night about physics and one of the most fundamental laws came to mind. It goes something like this.

“For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.”

It may not be word for word, but that’s the gist of it. I thought about it, as I said and realized that perhaps that law is true in somewhere other than the physical universe.

Let me explain. We all have our own private place, deep inside, that houses our hopes, values, memories, attitudes, emotions. Everything that goes to make up the unique individual that is you.

Let’s call that your universe.

Just suppose that every time you set a goal, decide to do something, or begin to plan something, you set in train an equal, opposite force at the same time.

Interesting concept, isn’t it? It might explain how we often think of things and almost immediately we feel a negative reaction inside. Doubt and fear raise their ugly heads and we often stop right there; impasse.

Have you ever felt that?

Here’s a thought for you. What if it’s you who creates the opposition to balance your creative or positive urge and thus create an equilibrium?

What if the point of life is to pose these problems whilst we pose goals and thus have a challenge, a game to play?

I can hear you saying, “But the opposition (or problem) comes from outside, others cause my problems and stop me from attaining my goal.”

Let me ask you this, how did you overcome the problems? (When you did overcome them.)

You did something about it. In other words you took responsibility and solved the problem. How did you feel about it when you won? That’s right, terrific.

Have you ever heard the saying that nothing worthwhile was ever achieved without a struggle?

Maybe we have to make it a struggle in order to feel it was worthwhile.
What do you think?

More next month.
