During his trial Socrates was called upon to reply to the charges that he corrupted the youth of Athens by the arguments he put forth in search of answers to the eternal questions of life. Questions like the nature of justice, beauty, ethics and other vital values that underpin life and living.
He was accused of placing himself above other men and so showing disrespect for authority.
His reply was simple. He stated.†I have spent my whole life in search of a wise man. The only way I could discover wisdom in others was to question. I do not pretend to have knowledge. I simply ask questions.â€
His arguments fell on deaf ears and so ended the life of the greatest mind in the Western world.
The great truth that Socrates gifted to the world was the power of questioning.
Without a question there is no answer. If there is no answer there is no wisdom. Socrates laid open the path to wisdom.
